Sunvapor teams with NGL to win Department of Energy Solar Desalination Prize

The US Department of Energy has awarded Sunvapor $250,000 for reaching the semifinals in the Solar Desalination Prize Contest. Sunvapor is eligible to compete in the next two rounds for an additional $1,750,000. Sunvapor’s patent-pending Solar Hybrid Desalination System is designed to separate clean water from the saltiest brines to reduce the cost of wastewater disposal while supplying fit-for-purpose water for uses outside of the oil and gas industry. Sunvapor is leading the team that is currently planning a pilot project that will be built and operated at NGL’s Striker 1 facility located in the Permian Basin, New Mexico. In addition to NGL, Sunvapor’s other project teammates include leading water treatment solutions provider SUEZ WTS and researchers from the University of Southern California. The project’s test results will be assessed by the New Mexico Produced Water Research Consortium.
